OUR 60TH ANNIVERSARY
The 20th Southgate group was 60 years old (or young?) during 2019. Founded on 7th October 1959 we celebrated our Diamond Jubilee year with at least one special activity every month. Please read on to see what we did.

In January the Cubs prepared and buried a time capsule.

ST. MONICA'S PLAYERS ARE IN THEIR 60TH YEAR AND OUR BEAVERS DESIGNED A THEATRE IN THE DISTRICT CRAFT COMPETITION, FINISHING IN A FANTASTIC SECOND PLACE.

in february, the beavers took delivery of these special brand new scarves to mark the 60th anniversary year. they blend the group and the main beaver scarf colours.

in february, the CUBS TOOK PART IN A HUGE 60 PENALTY LONG SHOOT-OUT - 1 FOR EACH YEAR OF OUR ANNIVERSARY. completely by coincidence, IT FINISHED 30-30!

in april a bumper turn-out of our cubs enjoyed the district st. george's day celebrations at tolmers campsite. the cubs enjoyed a variety of on-site activities including trampolines, pedal karts and climbing and everybody got a special souvenir badge.
MARCH SAW 26 OF OUR CUBS ENJOY AN AMAZING SLEEPOVER AT LEGOLAND WINDSOR.

an amazing treat in may when 20 of our cubs received blue peter badges. we are both enjoying our 60th anniversaries and the cubs wrote letters, drew pictures and made cards to celebrate this. many thanks and many happy returns to blue peter.

in july, the cubs exchanged letters with pack number 359 which is based in wilbraham, massachusetts, usa. they are also celebrating their 60th anniversary during 2019 and our cubs wrote to them on a particularly appropriate date: thursday 4th july.
in june, 20 of our cubs were lucky enough to have a football session at the spurs training centre in enfield.

in august, i had the pleasure of visiting gilwell park to see the special 60th anniversary stone which has been placed in the "promise path" there. the stone can be seen in the photo on the right and if you want to see it in person, it is located near the end of the path by the swan centre.

at a special meeting in september the cubs all came along dressed as somebody famous (or infamous!) from the last 60 years.

our beavers, cubs and scouts celebrated at a special 60th birthday party on monday 7th october which included leaders and helpers past and present and special guests including Steve Smith, southgate District Commissioner and Joe Law, whose father Philip was a founder member and first Scout leader of the group. The Mayor, Councillor Kate Analoue was another very welcome guest and she commented on the uplifting and positive energy from all who attended.

the cub meeting on thursday 28th november had a theme of games from 60 years ago and the meeting concluded with an indoor fireworks display. we managed not to burn down the cub hut whilst also testing that the smoke alarms work!

an amazing conclusion to our special anniversary year and at our end of term party which was on 19th december, all of our cubs were given a copy of this letter of congratulations from her majesty the queen.
